Here are some tips on how to stay safe while viewing and buying Basking Ridge real estate.
-
- Hire a reputable Basking Ridge real estate agent, such as Adrienne Francis to accompany you when viewing homes. She will call in advance and schedule showings through a licensed real estate company.
- NEVER go alone! Take a friend or family member.
- Wear something that will be easy to move in and nothing that will make you restricted from any kind of movement. Wear comfortable shoes.
- Make sure to bring your ID and/or a business card.
- When going somewhere that you are not familiar with make sure to take your cell phone and a GPS or driving directions.
- Make sure to take a flashlight into homes that appear vacant.
- Take a camera and recorder.
- Always look at the outside of the house to make sure everything is secured and nothing is broken like windows or locks.
- If you are going into a dark home where the power has been turned off, knock first. Yell that you are there to see the house and wait a few moments. Give someone time to leave, if they don’t belong there.
- BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL in unoccupied homes!!! Vacant homes have been known to have problems with squatters, criminals and illegal drug deals.
- If it looks like it has been broken into, don’t go inside.
- Definitely beware of your surroundings when you go into the house, if it is secured make sure to close and lock the door behind you.
- Remember to report anything odd, leaking or suspicious to the police and/or the listing agent.
The key is to use your common sense and don’t get caught up with house hunting and forget the basics of caution. Buying a Basking Ridge home can be fun and exciting!
