Watching Your Credit When Buying a Home

If you are in the market for a new mortgage on a home or you are thinking about purchasing a home then you will want to be sure to keep your credit top notch.

Your credit determines a lot when you purchase a home. If you have credit that isn’t so good you may have a hard time getting a mortgage or worse yet, you could end up being denied for a mortgage. How do you keep yourself on the right track?

1) Pay your bills on time! I can’t stress this enough. You will want to pay your bills on time so when a lender pulls your credit they don’t see a lot of late payments in your history

2) Pay down your debt! If you have high credit card balances or have a lot of debt on credit you might want to pay it down before you consider applying for a mortgage.

3) Shop lenders but don’t let them pull your credit until you find one you like. If you go to multiple lenders to rate shop and all of them pull your credit report this could hurt your credit score. If you are going to shop lenders wait until you find one and then have your credit pulled

4) If you have applied for a mortgage.. don’t purchase anything big on credit. If you are waiting to close on your home be sure not to charge or make any big purchase until you have closed on your home.
